The “Query Tracts” report, located within the Radius Circle layer of the mapping tool, can be used to display key tract information within a specified radius.
Preliminary steps:
1. Ensure that the desired Assessment Area has been set up within Settings/Tract Groups/AAs.
2. Within Discovery/Research, select the output drop down menu and choose Map.
3. Select the desired Assessment Area/Tract Group from the drop-down list.
Note: Tract Groups/Assessment Areas must first be created within Settings/Tract Groups/AAs.
Once the mapping tool loads,
1. Click the icon to expand the layers.
2. Click the eye symbol to turn on the Radius Circle layer.
2a. Click the chevron to expand the layer.
3. Set the desired radius value (mileage) by typing into the text entry field.
4. Select the checkbox for "enable drawing mode".
5. Draw the radius circle on the map, placing in the desired location.
5a. Once the radius circle has been placed, type within the pop up text entry field to add a label.
6. Select the checkbox for "Query Tracts".
6a. This will bring up the popup window for "Tract Demographics".
7. Click the "Download" button to generate the Query tracts report. The data will export to a separate Excel file.
Query Tracts Report - More information
General note: Many columns contain values of 0 and 1, such as the "In Tract Group" column. A value of 1 indicates True and a value of 0 indicates False.
Here is a breakdown of several column headers:
Key 1 – Combination of State code, county code, and tract code listed as no decimal
Key 2 – Same information as Key 1 but listed with the tract code decimal
Key 3 – Combination of State code, county code, and tract code
AAreamin – Tract Minority Level
AAreainc – Tract Income Level
In Tract Group – This is used to identify if the tract is within the selected tract group/AA.
