The Mapping function, built into CDP, enables a visible representation of where applications/and/or deposits have been made as well as the ability to display extra features such as branch locations, radius rings and a Tract Income or Minority Level color theme
Step 1 Log into the CDP
The active Institution and File will display in the upper right-hand section to the left of the name of the user logged in.
Note: The Tract Group/AA and branches must be created prior to generating the map. For the branches to display, they must contain an address and/or geocode information.
Step 2 Click Discovery from the main menu
Step 3 Click Research
Note: The Output drop-down may be grayed out when you initially access this screen. Whether there are records in your file or not, you can open the Filter Flyout from the left side of the screen and select Activate at the bottom of the flyout to allow Output to be selected.
Step 4 Use the Output drop-down arrow to select Map
Step 5 From the drop-down menu for Map Options, choose the desired Assessment Area/Tract Group which was set up within Settings-->Tract Groups/AA's and click SAVE.
Note: The map will automatically load with the color theme identifying the filtered Assessment Area. The following steps will outline how to configure the map to display the desired information.
Step 6 Navigation
6.1 Use the + and – symbols located in the upper left corner of the map page to zoom in or out
6.2 Click, hold, and drag on the screen with your mouse to move the center of the map to the preferred location
6.3 Click the Refresh Tract Details button to update the map with recent changes, prior to saving.
Step 7 To display Tract Demographics, click on a desired tract within the map
Step 8 Navigate to the Map Layers area and click the layer icon to expand.
Step 9 Click the icon to set any desired layer to visible. Layers may be set to individually visible, and/or multiple layers may be displayed. Layers include:
- Dot Density
- Symbols
- Markers
- Branches
- Radius Circle
- Census Tracts
- Cities
- Countries
- Zip Codes
- States
Step 10 Click the icon to expand a layer and display any customization options available.
Step 11 Set the Dot Density Layer to visible if you want to display the location of loans.
11.1 Choose Lat/Long to display the exact location of the loan, or choose Tract to display the loan(s) in the center of the tract.
11.2 Select the checkboxes for Deposits to display the deposits on your map, and/or click the checkboxes for Loans to display the Loans on your map.
11.3 Selecting the checkbox for Loans only will display all loans on your map, without differentiating between type of loan
11.4 Selecting the checkbox(es) for specific types of Loans will allow you to display only that type of loan on the map.
Note: The general checkbox for Loans does not need to be selected if you plan to differentiate between types of loans. For example, if your map will display Originated and Denied loans, select the checkbox for each type, respectively, and the general checkbox for Loans does not also need to be selected.
Step 12 Set the Symbols Layer to visible if you want to display a range of loans. For example, if we want to display the range of 1-3 loans on the map, we can select the type of loan (such as Originated). Notice that a symbol, symbol color, and range can then be set up.
Note: Multiple types of loans may also be selected here and displayed on the map together, by selecting the corresponding checkbox(es) for any type of loan.
Step 13 Set the Markers Layer to visible if you want to display markers on the map, outside of markers for Branches.
Note: The marker is independent from the Branch markers which are accessible within the Branches layer. For any marker, you may wish to add a label, customize the color of the marker, and/or select the desired label font size.
13.1 Select the desired settings for Symbol, Symbol Color, Symbol Size, and Label Font Size.
Note that the checkbox for "Enable Drawing Mode" must be selected in order to place the marker on the map.
Step 14 Set the Branches Layer to visible if you want to display branches both inside/outside the chosen Assessment Area.
14.1 Select Assessment Area Only to display only branches inside the assessment area.
14.2 Select All Branches to display branches both inside and outside the assessment area.
Step 15 Set the Radius Circle Layer to visible if you want to create a radius circle around a given point (such as a branch marker) on the map.
15.1 Within the Radius (mi) field, enter in the desired radius value.
15.2 Use the Label Font Size drop-down to select a (different) font size for the Radius Circle label, if desired.
15.3 Select the Query Tracts checkbox to to download a list of census tracts and their associated demographics that are within a defined radius.
15.4 Click and drag (left or right) on the slider bar to increase or decrease the opacity/border width, if desired.
15.5 Click within the Color field to select a different color for the radius circle, if desired.
15.6 Click on the boundary of the circle to delete, if the radius is no longer needed.
Note: The checkbox for "Enable Drawing Mode" should be de-selected once all radius circles have ben placed on a map. Otherwise, the tool will continue to show radius circles which can be placed on the map.
Step 16 By default, the Census Tracts layer will be set to visible when the mapping tool initially loads.
16.1 By default, the map will initially display as a Tract Income Level Map. To select a different Theme, use the drop-down menu and select the option for Tract Minority Level, if desired.
16.2 Click within the Color field to select a different color for any Income/Minority level if desired.
16.3 Select the checkbox for Enable Labels to include the tract labels on the map.
Enable/disable the desired layers and their available settings.
Step 17 Enable the Tract Penetration Color theme layer to assist with visualizing lending gaps in your Assessment Area. Note that to display tract penetration information, both the "Enable Labels" checkbox must be selected in addition to turning the layer on.
17.1 The number values listed in the text entry fields are referencing the number of originated loans within the census tract.
17.2 The drop-down options listed to the right of each range represent the percentage of opacity (transparency of the colored overlay), displayed as a decimal. For example, a selection of 0.4 would generate an opacity setting of 40%. A selection of 1 translates to 100%.
17.3 When utilizing this layer, colors can be customized and selected for each level of tract penetration.
Step 18 Set the Cities layer to visible to place an overlay of the city boundaries (optional)
18.1 Slide the bar to the desired Border Width
18.2 Slide the bar to the desired opacity
18.3 To change a color where applicable, click in the color box
Step 19 Enable/Disable the Counties layer to place an overlay of the county labels.
19.1 Follow the same steps as above to change the Border Width, Border Opacity, and/or Border color.
Step 20 Enable/Disable the Zip Codes layer to place an overlay of zip code boundaries.
20.1 Follow the same steps as above to change the Border Width, Border Opacity, and/or Border color.
Step 21 Enable/Disable the States layer to place an overlay of state boundaries.
21.1 Follow the same steps as above to change the Border Width, Border Opacity, and/or Border color.
Step 22 To save the map, click the Save button located underneath the map layers icon.
22.1 Click the Save button enter a Map Name
22.2 Use the drop-down arrow to select a Map Group from a list, or enter a new Map Group Name into the box
22.3 Click Save
22.4 To access an already-saved map, navigate to Discovery/Research and click the Output menu drop down.
22.5 Select the Map Manager and click Open to access your map.
Step 23 To create and apply additional templates to your map, click the folder icon (image) on the right hand-side of the mapping tool.
23.1 Follow the steps above to set up and save the additional template as desired.
23.2 Once the new template has been created and saved, it can be accessed via the the folder icon on the right-hand side of the mapping tool.
23.3 Select the desired template from the Map Manager and click "Apply to Current Map". This will update the settings to reflect the new, selected template.
Step 24 To print the map, click the icon, directly underneath the SAVE icon.
24.1 Add or modify the Map Title, if desired
24.2 Select the checkboxes for any Legend Options you wish to include in the printed map.
24.3 Click Export to PDF.
